Phishing

By Christy Matte, About.com

Definition: Phishing is trying to trick someone into giving out sensitive information such as credit card numbers and passwords. For example, the criminal may send an email claiming to be a customer service representative from a bank. They claim there is a problem with an account and ask the victim to click on a link and sign in to their account. The link sends the victim to a fake banking site where they collect user names and passwords to the actual bank website.
