After a while, you computer has probably collected all sorts of old games, software demos, outgrown educational software, etc. Every so often, take a few minutes to remove old software from your machine. It will free up space for fun new things. Follow these simple steps to declutter your computer.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Under 5 Minutes

Here's How:

  1. If you’re using multiple accounts on one machine, you’ll need to log In as the administrator.
  2. Click on the Start Menu.
  3. Open up the Control Panel.
  4. Double click on the icon that says, “Add or Remove Programs” or “Uninstall a Program.” You should see a list of the programs currently installed on your machine.
  5. Find a program you want to uninstall and click “Uninstall.” If you’re running Windows Vista, you’ll need to approve the action, so click “ok” when prompted.
  6. Repeat step until you remove all of your unwanted programs.

Tips:

  1. Often there is an option to remove or repair the software. Choose “remove.”
  2. It may ask if you’d like to remove all files associated with the software. Take a moment to think about whether the software will be used again. For example, you may want to leave the saved games from your kids’ favorite video games in case you ever want to reinstall.
  3. Never delete things from the list unless you know what they are and what they do.

What You Need:

  • A windows-based computer with unwanted programs
