When my husband and I went on our honeymoon cruise, the laptop came along. Each day, I uploaded photos and wrote about our day's activities. Our family and friends enjoyed being able to track our journey and we ended up with a great travelogue from our honeymoon. Some folks thought I was crazy, but I'm so glad we captured our thoughts and experiences while they were fresh.
This summer we're tackling our longest "road trip" with the kids: a two hour journey to the White Mountains in NH. Ok, so it's not THAT long of a trip, but we've got a toddler and an infant, so I'm sure it will feel long enough! We deliberately chose a vacation home with Internet access and I'm hoping to blog that trip as well. If you're doing a road trip this summer, consider blogging it as a family.
What to bring:
- Laptop with a Wi-Fi card or a smart phone with camera and Web service
- Digital Camera (or camera phone) - if possible, bring one per child
- Digital Video Camera
- All the cables, power cords, media cards (memory), batteries and passwords you need
Tips:
- If you don't have Internet access through your phone or hotel, seek out hotspots to upload your blog entries. Many major chains have them, including Starbucks, Panera Bread and McDonald's. You can also check the local library. Do your research in advance and know where to find hotspots along your route. The kids can help mark them off on a road map.
- Write blog entries as a family offline and then upload when you have Internet access
- Consider buying a car charger for your laptop
- Make sure you know how your blogging software/website works in advance
Blog Prompts:
- What was your favorite thing from the day?
- What was your least favorite?
- What did you learn today?
- Is there a funny story from the day?
- What meals did you have?
- What one thing would you change?
- What do you hope happens tomorrow?
- Write silly captions for one of the pictures from the day.
