31 Days of Fun - Classical Music Games

Wednesday January 7, 2009

My kids love music. My daughter, who is 19 months old, goes to sleep every night to Mozart's violin concertos. She calls him "Shushart." Of course, you don't need to be quite so intense about introducing your child to classical music. In fact, classicalmusicgames.com has some wonderful games that help kids understand basic musical concepts. The 5 games are samples from their full software line and include  musical masters Mozart, Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky. My personal favorite (and it's only a coincidence that it includes music from Mozart's Magic Flute) is a game that asks you to identify instruments from just a few notes. Once you identify an instrument, it is added to your orchestra. Your reward is to hear the piece played with all of the instruments in place. The animations are cute and it's a good way for kids to learn the difference between string, wind and percussison instruments.

So, if your child doesn't want to listen to a CD of violin concertos, at least you can introduce some basic music education!
