LeapFrog Launches Innovative Learning Path

Wednesday October 8, 2008

After a couple of months' delay, LeapFrog has launched their new Learning Path website. The Learning Path is designed to interact with LeapFrog's newest product line, including Leapster 2, the Tag Reading System, and the Didj Customing Gaming System. Parents can create a profile for each of their children to track how the kids are using the LeapFrog gadgets.

The LeapFrog Learning Path can tell you how long your kids spent on a particular game or activity. It will tell you what they did while using the system, how they did on games and quizzes, and what skills they were working on in the process. The Learning Path is also a window into what LeapFrog calls their "Scope and Sequence" - the educational curriculum embedded in its toys.

I like that the Learning Path gives parents a way to stay engaged with what their kids are doing while playing with LeapFrog products. It's too easy to tuck the kids in a corner with an electronic toy to keep them quiet. Parents can use the Learning Path to get an idea of how their kids are doing on a particular subject. If they see that their child is struggling in a particular area, they can get some extra help. The test will be whether or not parents have the time and energy to upload the information on a regular basis and track their kids' independent playtime to this level.

It's a great idea, but it will depend on parents buying in to the process.
