Family Computing Kid Site of the Week: Spatulatta

Wednesday March 12, 2008

I remember learning to make pizza and muffins in "Home Ec" class when I was about 12. A few of my classmates decided to "spice up" our muffins by putting fake blood capsules in them. Yeah, some things just kind of stick with you.

Anyway, cooking is a great experience for kids. With so many convenience and fast foods, it's important for kids to know that making healthy food is easy and fun. Since extras like Home Ec tend to be cut when budgets get tight, you'll definitely want to bookmark Spatulatta. It's a website designed to teach kids how to cook. With cool recipes like "Leprachaun Lunch" and "Cabin Fever Cuisine," Spatulatta is as entertaining as it is educational. And the best part?  These cooking videos are hosted by sisters Belle (11) and Liv (9) Gerasole. I haven't seen them hiding fake blood in their recipes, but they're still a lot of fun.

If your kids are too young to cook for themselves, or just too lazy, visit Stephanie Gallagher's Cooking for Kids site. I'm particularly in love with the Green Eggs and Ham and Pink Yink Ink Drink breakfast.

If you try out any of these fun recipes, drop back and let us know what you think...
