Parent Site of the Week: Lookybook

Monday February 4, 2008

If you have ever walked into the children's section of a bookstore, you know just how overwhelming it is. Shelves and shelves of board books, picture books, early readers and chapter books. And, let's face it, they aren't all very high quality. Enter Lookybook, a virtual bookshelf of picture books.

Lookbook isn't meant to replace your library of real books. Instead, it's a chance to preview the stories and artwork in the comfort of your own home. For Internet shoppers such as myself, this is a wonderful service. You just can't buy a picture book based on the cover and the description!

The website is still in beta testing, which means that it may have some bugs here and there. It also means that the selection of books is still limited. Even so, I loved "thumbing through" the virtual books on the site. I've already added some of the gems to my wishlist. You can leave comments about each book and even add your favorites to your personal "bookshelf" so you can find them later.

I'm hoping this site gets support from major publishers of children's books because I'm already in love!
